Is this trip suitable for families with young children?

The hiking and rafting aspects can be too strenuous for very young children. We recommend this trip for active families with children aged 12 and above, or younger children can stay at the lodge during the rafting.

This adventure focuses on the exciting eastern side of Uganda, starting with the adrenaline rush of White Water Rafting on the Nile in Jinja—the longest river in the world. The journey continues east to the slopes of Mount Elgon, where the landscape softens, allowing for scenic hikes to the majestic Sipi Falls and educational tours of the region’s famous Arabica coffee plantations.

Trip Highlights

Nile Rafting: World-class White Water Rafting (Full Day) in Jinja.
Sipi Falls Hike: Guided exploration of the three stunning waterfalls on the slopes of Mt. Elgon.
Coffee Experience: Farm-to-cup tour of a local Arabica coffee plantation.
Source of the Nile: Visit the ceremonial starting point of the river.

Day 01 :

Transfer to Jinja & Nile Visit (Drive: approx. 2.5 hours)

Morning FLEXIBLE PICKUP (09:00 AM). Drive east to Jinja, crossing the new Jinja Bridge. Visit the Source of the Nile for a boat trip and check into your accommodation. Lunch en route or in Jinja.

Day 02 :

Jinja - Full-Day White Water Rafting

Early breakfast (07:00 AM). Transfer to the rafting base camp. Safety briefing, gear issue, and transfer to the starting point (09:30 AM). Full-Day Rafting (Grade 3-5 rapids, $approx 4-5$ hours on the water). Late afternoon riverside BBQ Lunch and departure back to the lodge.

Day 03 :

Transfer to Sipi Falls & Local Walk (Drive: approx. 5 hours)

Morning (08:30 AM) drive from Jinja towards Mount Elgon. Check into your scenic lodge near Sipi Falls. Afternoon at leisure, followed by a local Community Walk or sunset viewing over the plains.

Day 04 :

Sipi Falls Hike & Coffee Tour

Full-day dedicated to the guided Three Sipi Falls Hike (4-5 hours total). The hike covers the 100m, 85m, and 65m falls. Afternoon: Arabica Coffee Farm Tour with a demonstration of the bean-to-cup process, including a tasting session.

Day 05 :

Mount Elgon Region Exploration (Drive: Short local transfers)

Morning exploration of the Mount Elgon foothills, perhaps visiting local caves (e.g., Kapchorwa caves) or community markets. Afternoon transfer back west to a convenient overnight stop (e.g., Mbale/Tirinyi area).

Day 06 :

Departure (Drive: approx. 5-6 hours

Final drive back to the agreed drop-off point in Kampala or Entebbe, arriving in the afternoon (14:00 PM onwards).
